Arsenal have completed the signing of Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon for a club record fee.
The Gunners have pursued the French international for several years and identified him as the man to bolster their frontline.
Lacazette can solve Arsenal's problem
Arsene Wenger has a wealth of attacking options at the club, including Olivier Giroud, Danny Welbeck and Lucas Perez, yet Lacazette’s unique individual qualities make him an exciting addition to the Arsenal squad.
Lacazette is likely to play in a lone role up front, although Alexis Sanchez’s uncertain future means he could be a potential replacement for the Chilean if Alexis does decide to leave in the coming weeks.
As it stands, however, Arsenal will be able to play Alexis, Mesut Ozil and Lacazette as a front three next season.
The 26-year-old plays as a central striker and uses a mixture of strength and pace to beat opposition defenders. He played on the left and right flanks early in his career, making him a versatile option for an Arsenal squad used to varying positions.
Giroud has been linked with a move away from Arsenal but there remains the option for Lacazette to play up front alongside another forward, with Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott also available for selection.

The club confirmed the news on Wednesday, indicating that that the French striker has agreed a long-term contract with the north London outfit.
"Alexandre Lacazette has agreed to join us on a long-term contract, for an undisclosed fee," read a statement posted on the official Arsenal website.

"The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes."
The 26-year-old, who scored 37 goals in 45 appearances for Lyon last season, underwent a medical at London Colney on Tuesday, and eclipses Mesut Ozil - who cost £42.5m - as the most expensive purchase the Premier League club have made.


"He is expected to travel with the tour party to Sydney this weekend and is likely to make his home debut in the Emirates Cup on July 29 or July 30.

With hopes of signing Monaco's Kylian Mbappe - a Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain target - fading, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger managed to convince another of Ligue 1's star forwards to play at the Emirates Stadium.
Lyon club president Jean-Michel Aulas, who sanctioned the transfer on Sunday, has previously said the Premier League side must part with €65m to prise Lacazette away from Parc Olympique Lyonnais and the newly agreed deal includes bonuses worth £6m.
France international Lacazette was close to joining Atletico Madrid before the Spanish club's transfer ban was upheld and Aulas confirmed via French news outlet Le Progres that Wenger's side that the move is closer to €50m (£44m/$57m) rather than an "unrealistic" €65m (£57m/$74m).

The veteran NYPD officer who was assassinated in the Bronx early Wednesday was a mother of twins who had recently returned to work following an injury, sources told The Post.
Miosotis Familia, 48, had been out sick with a leg injury and only returned to full duty last month at the 46th Precinct, where she worked the midnight shift, sources said.
“She was quiet and very into her family,” a source said. “She adored her children. She was a good cop and well liked by everyone who worked with her.”
Police union boss Patrick Lynch honored Familia as a hero Wednesday morning.
“Police officer Miosotis Familia, the mother of three, gave her life protecting a neighborhood that had been plagued by gang gun violence. Fully knowing the dangers that she faced, she suited up in uniform everyday and stood tall against those who threaten and terrorize the good folks of the Bronx,” the president of the Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association said in a statement.
“Police officer Familia now joins the exclusive ranks of women who have heroically served and died in the line of duty. We will keep her in our hearts and minds as we do all of the women and men who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the city they loved.”
At a press conference around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Barnabas Hospital, Mayor de Blasio also lauded Familia.
“She was on duty serving this city, protecting people, doing what she believed in, and doing the job she loved,” de Blasio said. “And after this shocking and sudden attack, her fellow officers came to her aid immediately.

A lot of Hollywood celebrities don’t like Donald Trump. Although the presidential elections were held in November 2016, the celebrities still can’t accept that Trump is the President of the United States. Some of them even said that if he wins the elections they would live the country.
However, not one celebrity that stated that left the country and it’s been almost 6 months since Trump won the elections. But, now the celebrities have decided to јoin together and come with an ultimatum to the President. They will protest until Trump resigns.
“It’s about time people understood that we’re the ones with the power and that the president is there to serve us, not the other way around“, a spokesperson for the group said.
“We’re calling for a general strike that would include every single person involved in making motion pictures in Hollywood, starting with the actors and celebrities themselves and encompassing companies in charge of making props, movie memorabilia and even souvenir shops.”
Rosie O’Donnell, Debra Messing, Ed Asner and Michael Shannon are one of the loudest of the group of artists, entertainers, and activists who are calling for a month-long protest to stop President Donald Trump.
“No! In the Name of Humanity We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America!” reads a full-page ad placed in the New York Times on Wednesday by the group Refuse Racism. “Donald Trump, the President-elect, is assembling a regime of grave danger,” the ad says.
“Millions of people in the US and around the world are filled with deep anxiety, fear and disgust. Our anguish is right and just. Our anger must now become massive resistance – before Donald Trump is inaugurated and has the full reins of power in his hands.”
Some Hollywood celebrities are calling for an all-out strike involving the entire movie industry in order to force Trump to resign.
“We’re calling for a general strike that would include every single person involved in making motion pictures in Hollywood, starting with the actors and celebrities themselves and encompassing companies in charge of making props, movie memorabilia and even souvenir shops,” a spokesperson for the Refuse Racism group said. “It’s about time people understood that we’re the ones with the power and that the president is there to serve us, not the other way around.”
When asked why Hollywood out of all the industries is being targeted, the spokesperson explained,
“Hollywood is, simply put, the base of the entire modern American culture. It is the foundation of the country, so to speak, the glue that’s holding it together. And think about what happens when you destroy the foundation of a house. It comes crashing down, right? Well, that’s exactly what’s going to happen to America unless Donald Trump realizes how real the danger of that actually is, and chooses to step down as President of his own free will. And while we’re on the subject, between you and me – nobody wants Hollywood to stop doing its thing, but this is a necessary move.”

Korean celebrity couple Song Joong Ki and Song Hye Kyo have opened up about their surprise engagement.
In separate statements, translated by several news outlets, the pair, best known for starring in the hit K-drama "Descendants of the Sun," acknowledged the suddenness of their announcement.
The two also talked about how their romance began, and have expressed excitement over starting a "new life" as a married couple.

In what could be the first such case in the world, Canadian officials have issued a baby named Searyl Alti a health card without a gender marker.
Kori Doty, a nonbinary transgender person who identifies as neither male nor female, gave birth to Searyl in November and has been battling to keep the eight-month-old's gender off all British Columbia government records ever since.
The health card has a "U" in the space for "sex", which could stand for "unassigned" or "undetermined." However, officials refused to issue a birth certificate without a gender.
"We’re not actually asking to have anyone’s ID changed against their will. We’re just asking to change the structure of how identification, particularly the birth certificate, starts out,” Doty told CKNW News. (Doty did not immediately respond to an interview request from BuzzFeed News.)
British Columbia is believed to be the first public authority to issue an official card without a marked gender. At least two other Canadian provinces, Ontario and Alberta, are now also considering offering a third, nonbinary option on government documents.
Human rights lawyer barbara findlay, who styles her name without capital letters, said the genderless health card arrived in the mail and that it is "a big deal and a major step forward.


"We would prefer they take 'sex' off these documents entirely," findlay said. "A baby's gender identity develops over time, not when a doctor examines its genitals right after birth."
Doty, who is still going through the arduous experience of changing their birth certificate, told the CBC that doctors chose an "incorrect" gender assignment that "followed me and followed my identification throughout my life."
They, along with eight other people and the British Columbia Trans Alliance, have brought a case before British Columbia's Human Rights Tribunal demanding the right to change their birth certificates, arguing that the document encapsulates personal information that cannot change.
As a parent, Doty wants to spare their child that kind of stress and frustration.
"I'm raising Searyl in such a way that until they have the sense of self and command of vocabulary to tell me who they are, I'm recognizing them as a baby and trying to give them all the love and support to be the most whole person that they can be outside of the restrictions that come with the boy box and the girl box," Doty told the CBC.

Had Plan A worked out for Manchester United, a fit Zlatan Ibrahimovic would be reporting for pre-season duty this weekend and Antoine Griezmann would have been among those modelling the striking new home kit the club unveiled on Monday.
Instead they face a race against time to get Real Madrid reserve Alvaro Morata on the books before they fly to the USA on Sunday for the start of their build-up to 2017-18. To the naked eye Jose Mourinho’s hopes for the summer transfer market have taken a significant turn for the worse since he handed his wish list to executive vice-chair Ed Woodward towards the end of last summer.
Madrid reject €80m bid for Morata
It is easy to draw that assumption. Ibrahimovic’s ACL damage sent United heading into the market with a huge hole to fill up front, while Griezmann’s insistence on fulfilling a moral obligation to Atletico Madrid after their transfer ban added another stick into United’s spokes.
But the pursuit of Morata actually seems a very wise one in the present landscape, with his attributes arguably far more suited to United’s needs than those of Griezmann. Sure, the Frenchman has already become one of the most talked-about footballers in the world while Morata has failed to become a regular first-team player with both Madrid and Juventus, but since when did the most base of parallels make sense in football?
The acquisition of Griezmann would have added another flair option in attack for United but would not have addressed their concerns front and centre. Last season they spurned too many opportunities in the final third even in light of Ibrahimovic’s 28-goal return and they need to do more to turn their heavy possession stats into results. Would the signing of another man known for his creativity over his productivity have been the answer to their short-term issues?
In Morata they are chasing a player who, it is true, has yet to reach the very highest level. But last season he had the second-best minutes-per-goal ratio in La Liga behind Lionel Messi and even bettered the five-time Ballon d’Or winner by 33 per cent when it came to his conversion rate of a goal to every 3.6 shots.
Moreover, Morata has the type of game which could really benefit United’s current squad. His back-to-goal play is as close to Ibrahimovic’s as is available in today’s market, and he is far more mobile than the 35-year-old Swede. Add in his strength in the challenge and quality in the air, and he fits the profile of the kind of striker Mourinho has been looking to build his side around.



Whereas Ibrahimovic would sometimes drift out of attacks and leave United with no figurehead, Morata will ensure that the likes of Marcus Rashford, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Anthony Martial are brought into play in more threatening positions. And last season’s statistics suggest he is beginning to prove himself as a real poacher too.
United clearly have a real belief in Morata, hence their willingness to up their bid for the 24-year-old to €80 million. While Madrid continue to hold out for another €10m, United will know that there is no major risk in adding a little more to their offer given the tools Morata offers. Of course, there are no guarantees he will be able to transfer his burgeoning quality to an English setting but that is true of any foreign signing and United have been arguably the most successful club at helping players make that transition during the Premier League era.
Griezmann won't rule out Man Utd transfer
Morata is adaptable enough, too, that should the Griezmann deal finally get done next summer he will not immediately become expendable. He has proven in his stints with both Madrid and Juve that he has the versatility to be a main striker or the man working hard to mop up around the attacking focal point.
The player himself puts that work ethic down to none other than Mourinho. “I want to thank Jose Mourinho, who drilled it into my head that if you don’t work and toil, you’re less likely to play,” he said shortly after the Portuguese left Real Madrid in 2013, and it is that commitment to work hard which has seen him retain an importance to the Blancos despite their quality-laden first-team squad.


  So while some have suggested that he weighs in behind Ibrahimovic, Griezmann, Andrea Belotti and Romelu Lukaku down the list of strikers United would prefer to be starting their season with, Morata could yet prove to be the right man at the right time for Mourinho’s side. The perceived ‘best player’ isn’t always the best option.

Sweden's first man-free rock festival will see the light next summer," its organiser has confirmed, following a string of sexual assault reports at other festivals in the country.
It was announced on Saturday that Bråvalla, Sweden's largest one, would not be taking place in 2018 after police received reports of four rapes and 23 sexual assaults at this year's event.
Following the news, Swedish radio presenter and comedian Emma Knyckare tweeted: "What do you think about putting together a really cool festival where only non-men are welcome, that we'll run until ALL men have learned how to behave themselves?"
It would seem she received a lot of support for the idea, as she later confirmed on Instagram: "Sweden's first man-free rock festival will see the light next summer.


"In the coming days I'll bring together a solid group of talented organizers and project leaders to form the festival organizers, then you'll hear from everyone again when it's time to move forward."
Sexual allegations also blighted Sweden's We Are STHLM festival and are a worldwide problem, with 28 British festivals staging an online "blackout" in May in accordance with the #saferspacesatfestivals campaign.
Since 2016, Glastonbury's attractions have included The Sisterhood, a space exclusively for people who self-identify as women.
